Ragged Claws by phoebe-johnson Ragged Claws by phoebe-johnson
Shall I say, I have gone at dusk through narrow streets
And watched the smoke that rises from the pipes
Of lonely men in shirt-sleeves, leaning out of windows?

I should have been a pair of ragged claws
Scuttling across the floors of silent seas.

This is my latest painting, based on the themes and imagery of T.S. Eliot. Specifically The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock and Rhapsody on a Windy Night. Hope you like it. I think I\'m beginning to develop a style... I THINK! We\'ll see. I have more coming. Criticise me!

Also sorry if I haven\'t replied to things on here, I haven\'t been on deviantart for a while. Thanks for still watching and supporting though. I appreciate every comment and fave.

Acrylic paint on MDF craft board wood stuff.

His face and expression are so perfect, just how I imagined him to look.

One of my favorite lines from Eliot from way back, and the painting really captures the mood of the poem. Awesome.

This is so cool. I love characters with interesting faces, and I love this crab guy. Great realism on the face and expression — aside from the anemones, he looks like a (sad, broke-down) person you might see on the street.

I...I kind of want to give him a hug, actually. D:

Thank you! The persona in the poems I based it on is a bit like that. Not homeless, but he is a sad, self-conscious, lonely and indecisive wanderer. So thank you again, your comment means a lot. I'm sure he would appreciate a hug :)

Sorry this is so late haha, thank you Thanoja! A few people have said that, about pirates of the caribbean. I loved those character designs :D Didn't think about them when I was painting this though, I probably should have though, it would have helped :P

Very nice, theres a real sense of sorrow and deprivation conveyed! Reminds me of some oft he work they did for Pirates of the Caribbean, with the oceanic things clinging to humans... very interesting to look at!

Thank you so much, it actually reminds me a bit of that as well! I really loved those character designs, I've always been interested in deep sea creatures/imagery. Ironic really, as I don't like the beach! Thanks again for your comment, really appreciate it :)

Thank you Theresa! Yes I know, I just can't move on from year 11, haha. Though we did study Eliot again at uni, which was lovely and nostalgic, but also refreshing because we focused on lots of his other poems as well. He really is wonderful :) Miss you too! I hope school is behaving for you.

interesting composition, felt like i am looking into a hole in a ship's hull and spying into the dungeon of sorts, discovering a creature that has been living in the dampness of the dungeon, in a parasitic lifestyle with barnacles and sea creatures with claws.
